About WHAT LARKS!
What Larks! are mainly a 3-part female a cappella group who sing mainly traditional songs with lots of sing-along choruses. We met originally via social media & the Grove Folk Club in Leeds.
What Larks! are Sue Thornton & Heather Woodhead and Fran Hughes
(although we also sing with Lillian Grace and/or Anne Curran)
-
Sue Thornton often performs with her husband Mark Ludlow.
-
Heather Woodhead, who helps run the Grove Folk Club in Leeds, is also a singer, songwriter & guitarist and has released 4 solo albums.
-
Fran Hughes also helps run the Grove Folk Club. She sings and plays a 12-string guitar. She started her folk career singing with her auntie Mary Fellows as Black Velvet.
-
Lilian Grace plays concertina & guitar and finished her folk degree at Leeds conservatoire in 2020. She released her 1st full solo album in 2023.
-
Anne Curran lives in Wakefield and is a solo singer and guitarist.

Recent bookings have included Morley Folk Club, Folk at the Grove, The Great North Folk Festival, Moira Folk Festival & Filey Folk Festival. We're looking forward to singing at the Beggars Folk Club & the GNFF again in 2026.
